ABOUT
ROLLING CANVAS
FOUNDING STORY
IT DIDN'T START AS A BUSINESS, It started as a passion.
Rolling Canvas started with me, Kanav and my brother Rishi, two accountants who weren’t enjoying it very much.
We’d always loved photography, and weekends were ours to actually use it. The real spark came around my own wedding in 2011. I flew a candid-style photography team over from Malaysia to shoot it in India, and watching them work, I knew this was something we could do ourselves. On the train between Punjab and Gujarat, Rishi filmed the whole journey on a Handycam, and cut it into something everyone loved once we got home.
Not long after, a friend asked us to shoot their Sangeet in Sydney. We bought one camera and did it out of curiosity. The client told us it looked better than the professional coverage they’d booked for their actual wedding in India. Word spread, and the phone kept ringing, all while we were still at our accounting jobs by day, editing every night from six to eleven.
We bootstrapped it entirely. Rishi left his job first, once bookings outgrew evenings and weekends. I followed three months later. Kept our accounting degrees as a safety net. Never had to use them.
Here’s probably the funniest story from those years. We went two years without a day off, editing out of a spare room, then the garage, once we brought on two more editors. Lights on past midnight, night after night, until our neighbours got suspicious enough to call the police on us. They showed up expecting a party, and found four of us hunched over laptops, deep in a wedding edit instead.
By 2014, we’d leased an office in Bella Vista, sold on the sunset over the Blue Mountains from the window. We’re still there today, except it’s not just the two of us anymore. It’s a team of seventeen.
ABOUT TEAM
We’re a team of photographers, filmmakers, and editors, in love with storytelling, art, and creativity, based out of Bella Vista, Sydney. Since 2011, we’ve shot over 2,500 South Asian weddings across Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, India, Botswana, Thailand, Bali, Fiji and New Zealand, and been featured in Vogue and The Wall Street Journal, shot on Canon, and trusted by names like Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi and Malabar.
But recognition was never really the point. What actually drives us is the quiet second before the Pheras begin, a father’s voice cracking on something he didn’t plan to say out loud, a room erupting the moment two families officially become one. We exist to catch those moments before they pass, and make sure they don’t fade.
You’ll never actually meet most of the people who work on your wedding. Some of us can spot a moment forming three seconds before it happens, camera already up. Others are sitting with your footage at 1 am, deciding which four seconds out of a hundred hours actually deserve to make the cut.
Different strengths, different personalities, but put any one of us in a room where something real is about to happen, and somehow we all slow down the exact same way.
If you end up working with us, you might meet two of us, or five. Either way, you’re getting all seventeen.
ABOUT THE LEADERS
OUR BELIEF
Meaning OVER spectacle
Somewhere along the way, wedding photography started chasing what looks good on a feed. Flashier edits, more dramatic light, more “cinematic” everything, and somewhere in all of that, what a moment actually meant to the people living it got a little lost.
We picked a different fight. Because in twenty years, nobody’s going to pull up your wedding video to admire the lighting.
They’re going to watch it to hear their grandmother’s voice again, to see their dad’s hands, to feel, for just a few minutes, like they’re standing in that room one more time. So we’d rather know your family and your rituals well enough to already be looking the right way when the real emotion happens, than get the perfect shot of the wrong moment.
That’s really the whole difference between a wedding that’s captured and one that’s still meaningful forty years from now.
FIVE THINGS THAT WE BELIEVE IN NEVER CHANGE
IT'S beyond the camera.
Nobody ever asks us about our lenses. What people are actually wondering, even if they don’t say it out loud, is whether we’ll be okay to have around when things get messy. Can we calm someone down mid-meltdown. Fix a problem quietly, before it becomes one. Know when to step back, and when to step in. It’s less about equipment, more about becoming, for one week, something close to family. Which, funnily enough, is exactly how the best photos happen.
IT'S whole family is the story.
The couple is the celebration. Two families becoming one is the story. His parents meeting hers as family, not guests. Relatives arriving from three countries, from both sides, meeting for the first time. Grandparents from two homes, watching quietly, like they already know they’ll want this moment back one day. Years from now, someone’s watching this film just to see two families who’d never met, already looking like they’d known each other for years. That’s the story a wedding film owes you.
Personal beats, generic every time.
Before we ever pick up a camera, we learn what you actually do together. The playlist that’s been theirs since the second date. The inside joke neither of them can explain to anyone else without it sounding stupid. We actually get to know you, so your photos end up looking like you, not like a pose in a pretty spot that could belong to any couple. That’s true for every wedding we shoot, not just the ones with an obvious story to tell.
IT has to hold up in twenty years.
Here’s the thing about trends: they look amazing right now, and kind of dated in five years. So we skip them. We shoot in a way that doesn’t scream a specific year, restrained, true to how things actually looked in that room, not whatever filter’s popular this season. Because the real test was never how your film looks the week you get it. It’s whether it still feels true decades later, long after everything’s changed, and it still hits exactly the same.
Value first, always.
Here’s something you’ll notice pretty quickly with us: we’re not trying to upsell you into things you don’t actually need. If an extra hour of coverage, or a bigger album, or one more add-on doesn’t genuinely make your day better, we’ll tell you that honestly, even if it means a smaller invoice for us. Because we’d rather you trust us enough to recommend us to your cousin than squeeze a little more out of your wedding.
HOW WE WORK
One team, not a handoff.
Most wedding photos and wedding films come from two separate teams, coordinating over email, meeting for the first time on your actual wedding day. We think that’s a strange way to tell one story.
So here, it’s one team from the start, planning your day with you before it happens, shooting it together, and sitting down with you afterward to show you everything in person, not a download link and a goodbye.
And when it comes to how much we can take on, that’s never really been the limit for us. We’ve built a network around us so we can grow without spreading the core team thin. What matters, whether it’s one wedding that week or twelve, is that every single one gets planned and shot with the same care.

FIFTEEM YEARS IN, THIS ISN'T A PITCH, IT'S A TRACK RECORD.
We could tell you why we think we’re the right choice for your wedding.
Or you could just look at fifteen years and 2,500 weddings and decide for yourself.

We just wanted to say a massive thank you for capturing our hectic wedding weekend, over three jam-packed days. Your patience and punctuality did not go unnoticed, and we can only imagine how much running around you all must’ve done that weekend — we hope you’ve recovered!
A special shoutout to Pooja for communicating with my family in Marathi so well — my entire family loves you. And thank you for helping with my wardrobe malfunctions, right down to handing me your own earring backing when mine fell out.
"YOU GUYS HAVE NOT JUST MET OUR EXPECTATION, BUT TOTALLY exceeded what we even thought was possible.”
We just want to say a massive thank you for all of your efforts. I don’t even have words for how beautiful the videos and photos are!! We’ve been watching them on repeat with massive smiles on our faces.
You captured our wedding so beautifully and completely in our style. Everything feels so authentic and us. And that same day edit you played on the night was honestly epic. You guys are magicians! I received compliments on that video from almost everyone later that night.
"YOU WERE HANDS DOWN OUR favourite wedding team.THE RIGHT BALANCE OF PROFESSIONALISM AND PERSONAL TOUCH.”
We spent all night looking at everything, reminiscing and feeling all the feels. This was everything. Honestly, we say it all the time: you were hands down our favourite wedding team.
These photos and the video say everything. We both don’t want to be working today and just want to rewatch everything over and over again.
Thank you for absolutely, absolutely everything.
"YOU MADE US FEEL so comfortable in front of the cameras I THINK we're professionals now!."
